WHAT
HAVE WE DONE SO FAR?
With the support and generosity of many local companies,
service groups and individuals our Support Group has succeeded
in achieving most of these aims.
Through the “Lebenshilfe für Behinderte”
of Germany we received a grant from the German government in order
to establish and Early Intervention Unit here in Tamariskia, Swakopmund.
With this and our own financial efforts we could fund a small
building, a vehicle and salaries for 1994.
Our Namibian therapist, Leah Kotungondo, has received
in-service training by the “Lebenshilfe für Behinderte”
in 1994 and was in Germany during May/June 1995 to receive further
training in order to train other therapists. We also added a second
room to the C.H.A.I.N center in 1995, with monies received from
M-Net Red Nose Day.
In May 1998 C.H.A.I.N opened a center in Arandis,
which unfortunately had to be closed due to lack of parental support
and funding.
1998 and 1999 C.H.A.I.N funded a seminar for an
educationalist from Cape Town, who facilitated a workshop for
parents of children with handicaps.
In 2001 we added a roof to three existing walls
at the center in order to create a third room. The branch in Windhoek
also closed its doors due to insufficient support and funds.
2002 we bought a 16-seater Toyota Hi-ace 2.2 to
transport our children to and from the centre.
