CHAIRPERSONS REPORT 2001/2002
1 November 2001 – 31 October 2002
C.H.A.I.N. has had another active year; the work
of C.H.A.I.N. is becoming increasingly well known in and outside
of Namibia.
1. CHILDREN
C.H.A.I.N. centre Tamariskia now looks after 20 children.
We lost two children due to cerebral palsy. George Haufiku has
had an operation on his feet and can now walk, and Jonas Katana
has received a hearing device with the assistance of Clash.
It is still a struggle to get the indigenous community to be open
about handicapped children and therefore the children often do
not get the necessary help and training they require.
Our children also attend riding lessons, fun gym and physiotherapy
(when necessary) once a week. Dr van Heerden looks after our children
free of charge, and C.H.A.I.N. is extremely grateful to her.
2. STAFF
Leah, Anastasia and Willem have worked throughout the
year at the Centre. Their commitment and hard work ensures the
smooth running and success of the Centre and this is greatly appreciated
by the committee.
3. TRAINING
Leah is doing in-house training with the staff at the
centre.
4. EQUIPMENT/ASSETS
C.H.A.I.N. has received various donations from sponsors
and the new 16 seater Toyota is going well. We are still looking
for a sponsor to pay our petrol expenses.
5. FUNDRAISING
Fundraising remains the major function of the C.H.A.I.N.
committee.
Activities for the year have been:
Feb 16 Street Collection
April 26 Ohne Sohle an der Mole
Sept21 Charity Ball
Oct 26 Street Collection
We have received a donation from Angelina Jolie,
Pastor Brühefener and the Lions of Swakopmund. Namfish has
also generously donated a monthly allowance. Thank you to all
of you for your support and generosity.
Leah and the parents are holding the street collection
every three months and we thank them and the community for their
support.
The Charity Ball together with the House of Safety
was a success. We are going to challenge all the fishing companies
in Walvis Bay next year to donate funds to our charities.
We decided to give the local community a breather
and have attempted to search for financial assistance outside
of Swakopmund. Our aim is to “globalise” C.H.A.I.N.
and we are positive about the outcome.
CONCLUSION
Mrs Lackies and the “Hilfe für Behinderte”
have continued to support C.H.A.I.N. and deserve special thanks
for all their hard work. We are very grateful for their support
and will try to improve our channels of communication.
I as chairlady, would like to express my heartfelt
thanks and appreciation to each and every one, be it teacher,
therapist, committee member or a friend of C.H.A.I.N..
Without all of you C.H.A.I.N. could not and would not exist and
our motto to bring “Hope for the Handicapped Child”
would not be fulfilled. I would also like to take this opportunity
to ask for your continued and generous support in the future.
JENNY PAHL
CHAIRLADY C.H.A.I.N. (SWAKOPMUND)
